Northern Marianas College nursing graduates Joann Villaluna, Kayla Tafoya-Sablan, and Sohee Yu have joined the long list of NMC graduates who passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses or NCLEX-RN.
The NCLEX-RN tests an individual's nursing knowledge, skills and abilities essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at the entry level. The exam is used by nursing boards in all U.S. states and territories to award nursing licenses.
“It’s great to see more and more NMC nursing graduates pass the challenging NCLEX-RN,” NMC President Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero said. “I congratulate Joann, Kayla, and Sohee on this accomplishment.”
NMC Nursing Department Chair Rosa Aldan also congratulated the three on their achievements.
“Joann, Kayla, and Sohee have bright futures in the nursing field and we expect to see great things from them as their educational and professional journeys continue,” Aldan said.
According to Villaluna, the main reason why she wanted to become a nurse was because of her grandfather.
“I remember when my grandfather was admitted to the hospital and I saw closely how the nurses took care of him,” Villaluna said. “It became my main source of inspiration to become a nurse. I feel fortunate now that I would finally be able to advocate and provide support not only to my family but also to the health and well-being of those in need.”
Villaluna also said that NMC provided all their students with a safe and supportive learning environment.
“I am grateful for my nursing instructors: Rosa T. Aldan, Johnny Aldan, Breanna Lee, and Ermelinda Oneto. I'd like to thank them for sharing their knowledge and for their commitment to guiding all the next generations of nurses,” Villaluna said.
For Tafoya-Sablan, she said that the support from her family, close friends, her nursing cohort, and the entire NMC Nursing Department staff contributed to her success with the NCLEX.
“All the support I received was not in vain because I accomplished what I set out to do, and I am forever grateful for those who helped me get to this point,” Tafoya-Sablan said.
According to Yu, the Kaplan test prep given to her by NMC played a huge role in her passing the NCLEX.
“The summary session I had with my nursing instructor Mrs. Breanna was very helpful in helping me study for the NCLEX.” Yu said. “I also appreciate how NMC instructors and the quality of its education continue to develop as well.”
