As part of Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Week, Northern Marianas College (NMC) President Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero will be a featured speaker during an online forum entitled, “AANAPISIs: Empowering Generations of AA & NHPI Students,” hosted by the Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE).
This virtual panel, held during AANAPISI Week 2024, will feature insights from nationally recognized higher education leaders on how AANAPISIs serve, educate, and prepare the next generation of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA & NHPI) students to become changemakers in their communities. Panelists will also discuss the challenges facing AANAPISI programs and offer policy recommendations for their continued success.
In addition to Dr. Deleon Guerrero, panelists will include Dr. Martha Garcia, President of Mt. San Antonio College, and Dr. Ame Lambert, Vice President for Global Diversity and Inclusion at Portland State University. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Timothy Fong, Executive Director of the Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program at California State University.
AANAPISI Week celebrates the establishment of AANAPISIs, a minority-serving institution designation created by Congress on September 27, 2007, to improve access to quality postsecondary education for low-income, first-generation AA & NHPI students. The week highlights the critical role AANAPISIs play in supporting the academic success and future opportunities of underserved students.
