Northern Marianas College’s nursing department will be implementing a change to the scoring tiers of their admission test for the Fall 2022 semester.
The nursing program’s admission test will now have one standard scoring system and phase out the two-tier scoring system that was used for two academic years (Fall 2020 admission cohort and Fall 2021 admission cohort).
In the new scoring system, the applicant must pass the admission test with a 60% or higher in all five test content areas: mathematics, reading, writing, science, and critical thinking.
Currently, the nursing department reviews the admission test scores based on a two-tier scoring system. Applicants must either pass in the first tier (60% or above in all five test content areas) or the second tier (60% or above in four test content areas and 50-59% in one test content area).
The nursing department piloted for the first time the nursing program admission test using Kaplan Nursing’s admission test, or “KapTest”, for admission into the Fall 2019 semester. This pilot project was a big change towards making pre-nursing students aware of the College’s upcoming full implementation of an admission test and the need to prepare themselves in taking the test. For the fall 2020 admission process, the nursing department fully implemented an admission test as an additional requirement along with other existing requirements to apply for admission into the program.
This change will apply to NMC pre-nursing students who are on track to finishing their prerequisites in Spring/Summer 2022 or other students who have met the prerequisite requirements and now are ready to apply for admission for Fall 2022 Nursing Cohort. Students are encouraged to contact their nursing advisor for an update on their progress towards applying for admission into the nursing Program for Fall 2022.
The application for the Fall 2022 admission into the Nursing Program will be available in April 2022 at www.marianas.edu/nursing.
