Northern Marianas College 2024 nursing graduates Jesica Andebor, Davean Gonzales, and Jersee Nicdao have joined the long list of NMC students who have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses or NCLEX-RN.
Nursing graduates must pass the NCLEX-RN to be able to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse. The exam tests the knowledge, skills, and abilities of nursing graduates to certify that they can apply entry-level nursing practices correctly.
NMC Nursing Department Chair Rosa Aldan extended her congratulatory remarks, “The Nursing Team and I are very proud of Jesica, Davean, and Jersee and congratulate them on their great achievement of the NCLEX-RN. We look forward to seeing them at the bedside."
“It’s always amazing to see the growing number of NMC nursing graduates successfully passing demanding exams such as the NCLEX-RN,” NMC President Galvin Deleon Guerrero, EdD said. “I congratulate Jesica, Davean, and Jersee on their achievement.”
Jesica Andebor’s biggest motivation for pursuing a nursing degree has always been her family. “I wouldn’t be where I am without them,” she expressed. “Watching how caring my dad’s nurses were and how comfortable they made him feel inspired me to become a caring nurse for others.”
Her passage of the NCLEX was reinforced through the guidance of her instructors, along with the support of her family, husband, and friends. Additionally, Andebor highlighted the valuable study tools and practices conducted throughout the semester, such as the Kaplan Live Review, Kaplan exams, CAT exams, and Readiness exams.
“I believe that the NMC nursing program has been preparing students for the exam from the very first semester,” she noted. “With the consistent practice we had throughout our four semesters, the NCLEX felt like just another Kaplan exam to conquer.”
In advice to other NMC students who are planning to take the NCLEX, Andebor recommends applying for the NCLEX as soon as possible after graduating with a nursing degree. She stated, ”You’ve already gotten through the hard part; now you just need to review some content, take practice exams, and remediate, remediate, remediate!” She additionally emphasized the importance of trusting yourself and taking breaks.
Davean Gonzales, a classmate of Andebor, notes that his deep desire to find a meaningful sense of purpose in caring for others was his main drive to graduate with his nursing degree.
“NMC effectively guided me in adopting the appropriate mindset for preparing for the NCLEX, especially during our final semester,” Gonzales stated. “I was able to monitor my progress, which allowed me to strategically plan my NCLEX preparation immediately after graduation.”
In preparation for the NCLEX, Gonzales structured his focus into three distinct phases that entailed watching lecture videos and completing 85 practice questions daily, then addressing his areas of weakness and improving them, and finally, mastering the skills necessary to effectively answer case study questions. Furthermore, he highlighted the love and support from his parents, brother, and friends that helped him endure the two months of rigorous study sessions.
“Over the past two months, I completed a total of 3,186 practice questions and 30 case study questions in preparation for the NCLEX,” Gonzales said.
He advises students who are planning to take the NCLEX to control any test anxiety, remain calm, and be confident in themselves.
Jersee Nicdao, a classmate of both Andebor and Gonzales, aims to positively contribute her knowledge and skills to her community. For her, this is through pursuing a nursing degree and acting on her desire to provide high-quality care from a place of compassion.
Nicdao stated that during her preparation for the NCLEX, NMC provided valuable study resources such as Kaplan, readiness assessments, and CAT exams. To enhance her preparedness, she created a study schedule that helped her maximize her study time and answer over 2,000 practice questions. Additionally, she acknowledged the support and encouragement from her family and friends toward achieving her goal.
“Knowledge of nursing content is essential, but having the right mindset is equally important,” Nicdao said in advice to other NMC students planning to take the NCLEX. “Believe that you will pass the exam and let go of any negative thoughts. Channel that energy to motivate yourself throughout your study sessions. Go future RN!”
Andebor, Gonzales, and Nicdao are currently in the process of applying for RN positions at CHCC.
